To: Gryffindor Quidditch team
From: Angelina Johnson

Whether or not we've won the Quidditch cup, or even the House cup this year, I've been lucky enough to work with the best team in the school these past two years. I wanted to make sure you know that before I disappear. I hope I can come back to see some of your matches next year.

I also want you to be among the first to know that I've signed with the Appleby Arrows.

Enjoy your summers, and trounce Slytherin next year!

neville
[ mood | worried ]

It had been a terrible day. A terrible day indeed. The majority of Gryffindor House was unhappy -- anyone who'd known George Weasley was worried and confused about what was going on with him, anyone who knew Ron or Ginny was just as worried about them. The pall extended to other Houses as well, at least Hufflepuff and some of Ravenclaw since plenty of them had met George at some point at Weasley Wizard Wheezes. What the Slytherins thought, no one was really sure but for once, at least, even they hadn't bothered to offer up an opinion. Perhaps it was because their de facto leader, Malfoy, was missing in action too. In any event, Neville was grateful that no one had opened their mouths in either Care of Magical Creatures (where Professor Grubbly-Plank was filling in again) or Potions.

Of course, Potions had been a nightmare anyway. Without Hermione or Harry to help him, Neville had made a right mess of his work and Snape had seemed to take extra delight in singling him out knowing that there was no one else to defend him. There had been threats to drop him from the N.E.W.T. class (not the first time) although at this point, that would hardly have been a punishment. Seamus and Dean had tried to cheer him up after class but their attempts had been half-hearted at best.

Neville barely touched his dinner and came back to the common room to study. At least he could look forward to tomorrow -- he had two of his favourite classes then (Herbology and DADA) with Transfigurations coming in a close third (although it wasn't nearly as fun without Professor Tonks teaching them. Not that he disliked Professor McGonagall but she reminded him way too much of his Gran for comfort). He took out his books to make sure he was up to date on his reading, hoping someone else would show up soon.

Reading Journal Entries [01 Jan 2004|10:01pm]

dean
[ mood | nervous ]

Dean was sitting in the armchair by the fireplace, sketching with narrowed eyes. The light was far worse than he would have liked, but then again, candlelight was never a good source of light for sketching. And it really didn't matter, because today it didn't look like he was going to get anything decent on paper. Everything he started just turned out wrong.
With a sigh he put aside the sketchbook (which Ginny had given him for Christmas), and stretched. Going to bed was an option, but he didn't feel like sleeping yet. The Charms essay he kept postponing was an option too. Dean grimaced, thought about it for a moment, and reached for his journal instead. Maybe someone had written something that would be worth reading.
It didn't take long to come across this something. Though it wasn't worth reading in the way he would have wanted it to be. Biting his lip, he re-read Ginny's journal entry. Almost automatically, he picked up his quill. But should he really reply? On the one hand, he hated to see how misarable she obviously felt. And if he could do so much as let her know that he hadn't forgotten her, that he cared, then it was worth it. On the other hand, it would probably not make her feel any better at all, if he reminded her of himself and of all that had happened.
Dean bit his lip - and wrote the words. Just to cross them out again. "You're an idiot", he told himself, "Now she'll see you scribbled something in her journal and hadn't the guts to let her see it." With a sigh, he wrote the words again, and put his quill aside, nodding to himself.

Train of Thought [19 Dec 2003|08:47am]

ginny
Ginny lay in bed, still dressed in her school uniform. Classes had let out for the day and her roommates were frantically getting ready for the ball. She knew she ought to get started as well, but she had too much on her mind to put her wand anywhere near her hair at hte moment. What had happened to Fred? What had the Death Eaters done to Susan? More importantly, what could she do about them?

After an hour, she had to admit that she couldn't tackle the problems on her own. Who could she go to? Harry and Hermione already looked stressed to the breaking point. Sirius would go haring off again. Professor Lupin was still dealing with the backlash from the Daily Prophet article, and Charlie was busy dealing with end of the term activities. Well, then, why not Bill? Bill was in the Order, and he trusted her enough to give her that amulet. But Bill wasn't at the castle and owls were too slow and risky for this type of conversation. She'd have to Floo him, if she could find a decent, private fireplace.

She suddenly straightened. The fireplace! Fred had a secret hidden there among the bricks. Could it have anything to do with his disapparance? She had to find out. True, he'd warned her about sprouting blue feathers if she got the wrong brick, but she was willing to be covered boils if it meant finding out what had happened to her brother. Still, it was best to be safe.

When she got down to the Common Room, she took out her wand, picked up a poker, and started poking around the spot she'd seen Fred tap a few weeks ago.

What are the twelve uses for dragon's blood? [08 Dec 2003|07:30pm]

ginny
Ginny shifted restlessly in her chair, then squinted down at the notes she'd copied in Potions earlier that day. They must have made sense to her while she was writing them, but a few hours later, she was no longer able to figure out exactly what it was she'd been writing about.

Oh, well. It was just Potions anyway. Snape would never give her good marks no matter how neatly she wrote. Briefly, she wondered if Wrathorne had gone to his head of house about the hex she'd thrown at him, then dismissed the thought. If he had, she'd already be scrubbing out cauldrons. This, actually, worried her more than if he had tattled: if he wasn't bringing outside reinforcements, that could only mean that he was planning to strike back on his own.

She fingered the amulet that Bill had given her. It was sweet of him to give it to her, but she rather resented the implication that she needed it. She didn't. At least, she hoped she didn't. Well, maybe if it meant she could get help in Potions.

seamus
[ mood | discontent ]

Seamus slunk up to the third window on the left of the portrait hole in the common room and cracked it open. The Gryffindors nearest him cast annoyed glances his way, but Seamus didn't mind. He reached around the windowframe and felt the lump of tape that had secured the notebook to the wall. Pulling out his wand he slit the tape and pulled the book into the safety of the common room. It was Daphne Greengrasses, he'd been told. What a mess! He winced, remembering the warning, and kept the book closed. Fortunately it had been sufficiently covered by layers of tape*.
Now, what to do with it?

*(which he'd been careful not to stick directly to the book, thinking it was Dean's, and knowing that his best friend would not take kindly to a tape-covered book. He'd slipped a bit of the parcel paper the socks and tape had come from between the book and the tape.)

Fred Weasley is plotting against the entirety of Gryffindor House. Keep a close eye on your owls and don't accept any packages with air holes.

[ mood | hopeful ]

Just a reminder that we have Quidditch practice on Thursday evening, starting around 5:30 PM. That should give everyone enough time to grab some dinner and finish in time to get to the picnic that evening.

Contact me with questions or concerns. No Howlers please.

Notice to all Gryffindors:

The first Quiddtich match of the year will be held on Saturday October the 4th, and as tradition dictates will be played by Gryffindor and Slytherin. I trust you will all try your hardest, whether it be on the field or off while cheering on your house team.
