Padma opened her eyes. Daylight was coming into the room, but she noticed it wasn't... the same. Sitting up, she rubbed her eyes. Looking around, she tried to get a bearing on her surroundings. She saw a still sleeping Cho Chang in the next bed. Looking around some more Padma noticed an envelope on her bedside table. Opening it she read a note from Headmaster Dumbledore. Ship? The note was reassuring, but she was still a bit confused. It failed to be more forthright in how exactly they GOT on this... ship. She also began to wonder if any of her other classmates were here, or was it just the two of them?
The window was cracked open, and Padma could smell the salt air and feel the balmy breeze against her face. Looking out, she saw nothing but a vast landscape of water. Indeed, they were on a ship!
She had nothing on her but her wand, and the nightdress she wore upon climbing into bed the night before in her dormitory at Hogwarts. Knowing she couldn't very well get by only wearing her night dress she peeked in the drawers. She put on a top and pulled on some jeans that seemed to fit her just right. Shoes.... shoes... ah yes! She found a pair of sandals, and slipped them on her feet.
Padma took her wand, and tucked it in the waist of her jeans, pulling her top back over it. Taking the card that came with the note, she slipped that in her pocket. She wanted to be prepared if anything... happened."Maybe I should wake Cho, actually..." Padma thought as she walked across the room toward her slumbering housemate.

My sister is out. On a date. Yes. I'm her twin and it's a miracle if I even get a boy to give me a second glance lately? Something is way wrong with this picture.
But anyway, since I'm stuck in tonight, mum wants me to help clean house. I'd rather deal with a rampant Cornish Pixie. So I'm lying here on my bed leafing through Teen Witch Weekly. Just see the excitement ooze from my every pore. woo. hoo.
And school starts soon. This summer went by really fast if I do say so. I still have a couple of things to pick up for school, but we're going to be making another trip into Diagon Alley within the next day or two. So if anyone wants to meet up with Vati and I just let us know.
Okay. Now to go watch the paint peel. Ooo... yes, the exciting, amazing life of Padma Kamala Patil!

And I suppose I should update it, huh?
Sorry I neglect this thing so much... time just gets away from me and before I realize some time has gone by between my postings. But anyway.
Summer is going... good. We have been in India visiting relatives. We've been all over Karnataka. It's rainy season though so we've been prepared when venturing out. Parvati and I have been looking around in the markets and shops and I've found some lovely things, I'll be bringing back some trinkets for some of my friends.
Hope everyone's summer is enjoyable so far. I miss you, my friends!

So I survived exams. They were far less painful than I'd anticipated. It was just the studying and preparing that was murder. What a week! And now we're all preparing to enjoy our breaks. It will be great to get home for a bit though I'll miss my school friends.

Ginny Weasley got knocked off her broom quite nastily at the last Quidditch game. I saw her fall and it didn't look good. She'll be alright though. And those Slytherins... always playing dirty they are. Slimy bastards. Of course we had to see all of their smug faces after they'd won. Ginny, I'm sorry that happened to you, and hope that you didn't sustain too much damage.

Summer plans: Nothing really major, which is the point of vacation, right? Just hanging out at home, swimming, shopping, whatever comes along. I think at one point, we'll be visiting relatives in India as well. Must go for now. Later then.

I had been looking all over for my journal and realized that I must have accidentally had it in with some books I'd returned to the library. Went to Madame Pince to inquire, and that is indeed what I had done. Luckily she kept it safe for me. So that would explain my absence from writing in here for a bit.
Got my bags packed last night, and I'm off to catch the train home. Don't know what I plan on doing during the break, but the rest will be nice all the same. Perhaps Parvati and I can get some serious shopping done.
Must be going, don't want to miss the Express. See everyone when we return to school.

I have my pile of books, I have my parchment, I have my quill, I have my tea. Ready to settle in for a study session.
So much has been going on since getting back from break that I don't know where to begin so I won't talk about all that right now. Suffice it to say I've been working doubly hard on what I learn in D.A.D.A. and at our DA meetings.
Tea with Vati tomorrow afternoon. Goodness knows it's been impossible for either of us to even have a chat since we've been back, so...
Small update this time, I'm afraid. Too much to get to tonight. Right then. Off I go to grab a quick dinner and tackle this studying.

Break is over and it's time to head back to Hogwarts.
It was an enjoyable one. Vati and I had a great shopping and fun day in London right after Christmas where we spent our Christmas money and hung out spending quality sister time.
I also made it to Diagon Alley and bought a couple new things that I needed to take back to school with me. A new cauldron and new robes mainly.
I should be going... I have a few little things to pack, and then it's to the station, goodbye to mum and dad and off on the Hogwarts Express.

Off to Hogsmeade. In fact, I will make this a brief entry since I hear the others already congregating to go. I hope I can find something good for my "Secret Santa" gift while I'm out and about today.
Interesting thing happened this morning at breakfast. I sat across the table from two suits of armor! They came clanking into the Great Hall and sat right on down. Come to think of it, did one of them sound like Lisa? Nah. Couldn't be... could it?
Anyway, Hermione and I have a chance to score some extra credit for Ancient Egyptian Curses class looking over a scroll for Professor Canis and seeing what it translates to. Hermione has started, I think... we'll have to get together and work on it. Sounds like it's pretty detailed though so hopefully we can make some headway before the holidays.
Must be off now, Hogsmeade awaits.

Okay. I finally am starting to feel a little more in the spirit of the holidays, but between the enchanted armor and portraits singing carols everywhere you turn in this castle, I wouldn't complain if I never heard another verse of "Good King Wenceslas" again.
I got the name of the person I'm supposed to be sending a Secret Gift to, and was glad that it's someone I actually know. It's just a matter of acquiring said gift and giving it.

Bloody hell. I have loads of studying and research to do. Seems like everyone else is in the exact same boat because I can't find any peace to think. Library crowded. Common room too noisy. Too chilly to spend too much time outdoors. Just too many distractions. If anyone needs me I'm in the dormitory. At least there is a bit more quiet and less distraction there.
I'm losing it. Really. I'm slowly going mad.

It's just been so very frightening here lately. Nobody feels safe. Susan is back, which is a relief but she's been through quite an ordeal.
I did another patrol last night and felt very jumpy. I heard every little sound and saw every little shadow. Constantly looking over my shoulder. I normally try to keep a cool head, I'm not one to over react, but I keep thinking about my friends and particularly about Parvati. If anything happened to my sister I don't know what I'd do.
I don't know if I should tell mum and dad about these latest occurences, they'd surely pull Vati and I out of here in a heartbeat if I did tell them.I can't let that happen. Our friends need us.

I find my Ancient Egyptian Curses class simply fascinating. Many of the ancient Egyptians who used magic and spells did so mostly for protection and healing. But tombs, particularly tombs of the pharaohs, were protected by curses. We've been looking at them and studying their aspects.
Here's one, from the Dynasty 5 Pyramid Texts:
As for anyone who shall lay a finger on this pyramid and this temple which belong to me and my ka, he will have laid his finger on the Mansion of Horus in the firmament, he will have offended the Lady of the Mansion ... his affair will be judged by the Ennead and he will be nowhere and his house will be nowhere; he will be one proscribed, one who eats himself.
Sound like a place you would want to disturb? I didn't think so. Right.
Random thought: There sure have been alot of owls flying around this school the past day or so. Interesting. Maybe people have just been getting alot in the post is all.
Anyway, if you'll excuse me, I have a bit of homework and reading to do, and there is a rather loud game of Exploding Snap in progress between some second years that I think I should attend to if I'm going to have any form of peace in here.

Busy, long day. Nothing more to say about today except that, really.
Halloween was wonderful. The Great Hall was transformed into a wonderland of orange and black, and looked simply stunning. I was asked to dance a few times, and I saw all of my friends so I had a splendid evening. There were some beautiful costumes!
We are coming up upon the holidays soon. Vati and I will no doubt be going home to London over Christmas break. Shopping, hanging out, and loads of fun. It should be very nice and a very welcome break.
Well I must go and get some dinner, then do some of today's homework assignments.

I just finished up my homework. The Halloween Ball is tonight. Thank goodness that we don't have to worry about any prefectly duties, the Head Boy and Head Girl are to take care of that. I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone does for costumes and such. Speaking of, I'd better go start getting ready!

I think I need to go visit Madam Pomfrey and see about a mild sleeping draught. I haven't slept well for the past three nights, and that just won't do. I can't afford to be tired in class, have to be sharp and alert.
Took a walk out by the lake very early this morning, before it was light, even, since I couldn't sleep. The crisp air did me wonders but that was only temporary.
There was a little extra work to get done this weekend courtesy of Professor McGonagall, and I had a Potions essay to write too. I don't know how I'm going to manage this when my head feels like it's ready to explode and my body feels like lead. It's the no sleep, I'm sure. UGH.
And I'm afraid I snapped at a couple of second years today in the common room for being a tad too noisy. I apologize... I've been really cranky and I shouldn't have taken it out on you.

Things around here are pretty much quiet. Lisa has acquired a goat, however. But she seems to love it, so...
I saw her a few minutes ago leaving the common room with said goat and she looked both nervous and sad, so perhaps she may have been called out for having it.
I'm just sitting here gathering together some random notes for classes this week, and preparing to go to my first class of the day today, Care Of Magical Creatures. Sometimes Professor Hagrid has some interesting beasts to show us and teach us about, so who knows what the day holds.
Still working on my costume for the Ball, and it's about done. I have had my eye on this one boy but I can't seem to get up the courage to approach him. I don't know why I'm feeling like this, I usually am able to but there is just something in the back of my mind that is preventing me... UGH. Never mind. I can't deal with this right now.
Must get going. I have some things to do before today's classes.

The Quidditch match Saturday was exciting. Gryffindor won! They were brilliant, I must say.
Hogsmeade was loads of fun. Gladrags yielded a couple of cute finds, and as I shopped my way around to different stores, I picked up some makeup... a little glitter, and some fun new eyeshadows... and some of my favorite chocolates from Honeydukes when I went in there. Vati found the most beautiful costume... I am still working on mine but I think it will be good.
Now I need to go and catch up on a little bit of homework.
